Gratitude by Imagined Loss

See what is present as something entrusted, not guaranteed.

Use when: discontent, wanting more, taking things for granted

How the practice works

  1. Name the situation Name someone or something present that you often take for granted.
  2. Run the exercise Picture your ordinary day without this person or thing in it. Return it to the scene. Notice it as present now, not promised forever.
  3. Record what you notice It is on loan. What will you do with it while you have it?
  4. Choose the next action How will you show that attention today?
